A Legacy of Compassion
The Food Bank Coalition has been a cornerstone of community support since the 1980s. Founded during the Reagan era, the Coalition began with the simple act of distributing blocks of government cheese to those in need. Over the years, it has grown to include 19 food banks across the County, each committed to alleviating hunger and providing essential food items to low-income families.
Why We Support the Snohomish County Food Bank
More Than Just Food Distribution
The Coalition is not just about handing out food; it's about nourishing communities. They meet on the first Monday of each month, rotating among different food banks, to strategize on how to better serve their communities. The Volunteers of America act as the Lead Agency and Distribution Center, channeling various government and community funds and food items to the Coalition's network of food banks.
Key Milestones
1984: Organizing meeting at the Red Cross offices, marking the Coalition's formal beginning.
1987-1997: Rev. Jim Brown serves as President, expanding the Coalition to 19 food banks.
2016-Present: Elizabeth Durand leads the Coalition, focusing on modernizing operations and expanding reach.
2022 Kia of Everett Donated 3000 Ibs to the Snohomish County Food Bank Coalition
